Props to Samsung – Vista Driver Released Today

I complained a couple weeks ago about the Vista driver problems I’ve had.  Today I really had to get something printed and much to my surprise, Samsung just released a Vista driver for my ML-4500 printer.  Way to go, Samsung!  I wish it had been a few weeks ago but getting it out for the consumer release of Vista is good enough.

This saved me a ton of hassle today!

    Thanks a million, Derek. I’ve been looking for a Vista driver for months now

    Thanks for the link, just what I was looking for!

    I had an added boggle with my printer, in that it is a network printer attached to an XP machine across the office, and Vista attempts to download the driver from the XP machine, and won’t as it doesn’t accept kernel mode drivers. (even if you have it installed locally already)

    So, hot tip for anyone in the same situation; Install the driver from the URL above, and when it tries to detect a local printer, hit the ‘no’ button to carry on regardless. You now have the driver, so all you need is to hook up to your network printer, so, get a cmd box up (you will need to enable this in Vista too, Start button, right click the background and select ‘properties’, ’start menu’ tab, ‘customise’ button, and scroll down to towards the bottom and check the ‘run command’ box. OK back out. OK, so open that CMD box, and type;

    net use lpt1: /delete
    net use lpt1: \\pcname\sharename

    and send a test doc from your ‘local’ printer, and it should print out just dandy.

    Uh, meant to add, you need to substitute the name of the pc sharing the printer in ‘pcname’ and the name of the printer for ’sharename’ above. I guess not everyone is old and crusty and used to use Lan Manager!

    I am having horrible trouble trying to get vista to recognize my samsung 2010ml laser printer. i even dowloaded the driver from the samsung website for vista x64 which is what i have but after dowloading driver i get a “not compatable with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks nt.4.0 drivers” then it just fails to install.
    I also tried the most related printers already preinstaklled drivers on vista in the control panel and it wont ditect that either.
    can anyone please help? anyone encounter he same problem i have encountered?
    please contact me at realassets@excite.com.
    any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
    thanks.

    I’m having exactly the same problem as ‘j.m said’, i download the driver from the website but then when it comes to running it i get the not compatible message as well.

    i’m not particularly tech savvy and so would appreciate any advice on how to overcome this – thanks so much!
