Last month I bought a Tivo from Best Buy. Yesterday I went back to BestBuy.ca to find the model number (I was looking for compatible universal remotes).
Lo and behold, the price had dropped $20. Hmmm… Best Buy has a Lowest Price Guarantee. It had been more than 30 days since I ordered the Tivo but less than 30 days since the box arrived. "What the heck," I figured and fired off a brief email asking if they would credit me back the difference (if you could get $20 for every 45 second task, you’d be making a cool $1600/hr).
Just four hours later, I received a positive reply:
With regard to your price match request, we have have applied the $20.00 plus applicable taxes to your order. Please allow 5-7 business days for the credit to appear on your Master Card and you will see the adjustments on your next credit card statement.
Way to go, BestBuy.ca. I’ve tried the lowest price guarantee at Staples and Futureshop before and they like to make it painful enough that I just don’t bother.
The Harmony remote I want is on sale at Staples and it’s just so much easier to order it from the Staples web site than trying to get Futureshop to price match. Actually, they advertise beating the competition by 10% of the difference. The pain of driving to the store and standing around waiting while they call Staples is just not worth five bucks.
