What Will Happen to Technorati?

I like Technorati (it’s a blog search engine in case you don’t know).  According to Read/Write Web (via Hitwise) the big daddy of search has surpassed Technorati in traffic in the blog search arena (http://blogsearch.google.com/).  That is bad news for Technorati methinks.  They need to be acquired or cut some big deals to get prominent placement on a major portal in the same way Google BlogSearch is on Google News.

From what I’ve heard, it will be hard for Technorati to close an acquisition deal because of the amount of funding they’ve taken.  Will Google eat their lunch before someone offers them enough money to make the investors happy?  Sadly, I think so.  They need to focus on cutting deals with as many major portals as they can.  And since AOL search is already “enhanced” by Google, that really only leaves Microsoft Live / MSN and Yahoo.
