Yes, we know, the iPhone shipped

Finally this morning my list of recent unread posts in Google Reader contained only one iPhone headline.  I get it everybody.  The iPhone shipped.  Amazingly the world is still spinning on its axis.

The common response seems to be that Apple has raised the bar for mobile phone design and experience, so expect to see a competitive leap forward from other handset makers.  This is from an email I got this morning:

Simple things like muting, speakerphone, 2-way conferencing, switching to vibrate (a dedicated physical toggle!), and visual voicemail: they got the simple stuff nailed

There are a lot of things that phones should do well that they just don’t.  My fingers are crossed that we’ll see a new trend of phones that nail the simple stuff.

They aren’t so enthusiastic at pcmag.com:

The most over-hyped product of the decade is a sublime media player and a flawed phone.

  1. Well, nothing’s perfect at first. The iPhone’s been a long time in coming – it was predicted in 1979 … (nice hat logo, by the way)
