Since the beginning humanity has always been, and always will be a social creature. We are also by nature a creature of innovation; always striving, at first for survival and progress. It is our innate ability and drive to improve and thrive that has led to this massive flow of information.

The people of today are more aware and yet less informed of everything that is happening around them. In many ways it is damaging to have so much information amd freedom of choice. People will always need some semblance of order, however the balance will inevitably be restored in time. Its just the way things are.

All through our history there has been a majority of less adaptive members of society. These are the youth you describe. But there has always been at the same time the smaller group that interprets all this data as it is. They have the ability to read and think at the same time, and i strongly believe nothing is truly different as a whole. We still interact, just in a new way.

Through our improvements and adaptations this economic is simply at a greater level. We will obviously change as a society through all these developments, but we will not change as a specied

Our brains have evolved over millions of years so whatever one throws at them, they are well enough designed to take it.

Our grand parents and parents etc spent most of their lives and their time doing manual labor to survive. Future generations will use less physical labor and more brain power throughout their lives.

The brain is one powerful and sharp muscle. It filters scads of information and collects the important things it needs to survive and disregards the crap.

I remember one line in a movie like I heard it yesterday. The movie was D.A.R.Y.L. (1985) - "Because the five senses of the human body are the fastest, most efficient method of programming ever devised. Just imagine. Sight, sound, touch, taste, smell. You've got all that going for you instead of some guy sitting at a computer terminal punching keys."

There was a time when there were only 5 computers in the entire world, then as time past, a time came when everyone on earth had one and then awhile later a time came when everyone wore one like they wear their clothes. They eventually reached Singularity.

This, then, is the Singularity. The Singularity is technological change so rapid and so profound that it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history. Some would say that we cannot comprehend the Singularity, at least with our current level of understanding, and that it is impossible, therefore, to look past its "event horizon" and make sense of what lies beyond.

Shift happens.

im an 18 year old kid and i spend way too much time on the interent. Ive been doing this cause of sites like digg, facebook, and joystiq which release an unrelenting flow of new things. I take comfort in coming home and being bombarded with novelty. I get a new CD and im over the band in a week. All I do is search for new music or novelty. Nothing ever keeps me entertained long enough it seems, hell, I navigated away from this page twice but forced my self to complete it (no joke).

This article is completely relevant and there really is nothing we can do about it. I mean idont think its going to screw us over that much because when you look at it, adults in the 60's were hammering kids for the rest of the decade for watching TV and its "constant novelty". But my social life is impeded when hanging out with friends. Just yesterday I had friends over and three of them had there heads buried in cellphones talking to their girlfriends. Hard to get excited with friends when they're only half there. So I think it is BS and it is screwing up being social for kids but we are kids, we adjust. Its normal for me to go to partys and everyone there is on their cellphones at somepoint or another. Its normal for me to go to school and have every other kid scanning facebook for updates on blackberrys.
We'll adjust, we're humans, its just going to be different
